Kylie Lipkit in Kristen - Review

I'm probably the last person to finally get hold of the Kylie Lipkits. The Kardashians/Jenners are some of the most popular people in the world and when Kylie Jenner released her own line of makeup, the world naturally was ecstatic and every time she launched a product, it would be sold out within seconds. The initial colours did not attract me very much so I happily gave them a pass, given how costly these are. If you guys regularly follow by blog and Instagram, you would know that I am weak where berry/pink lip colours are concerned and lighter shades don't really appeal to me. Kristen seemed like my ideal colour and although I tried very hard not to give into the temptation, I somehow ended up ordering it and the rest, like they say, is history!

When the Kylie Lipkits initially released, a lot of people claimed that they were repackaged Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks which I really didn't like given how dry and flaky they were on my lips. This made me stay away from them. However, some time later my friend ordered Kristen for herself and she was raving about it which is why I decided to give it a try. Secondly, a lot of people said that formula had been improved also.

As far as the packaging is concerned, the liquid lipstick comes in a standard tube with a doe-foot applicator with Kylie's signature on it and the drippy effect. The material of the tube and the cap are different from the other liquid lipsticks that I have, which makes them feel expensive. The lip pencil is black in colour and so far I have had no trouble sharpening it.

Now onto the main stuff. The lip pencil is great. It is pigmented and creamy which makes it easy to apply. The liquid lipstick, on the other hand, has a slightly drier formula. Kylie suggests to first outline the lips with the lip pencil and then fill in the lips with the pencil, finishing off with a coat of the liquid lipstick. When I first received the kit, I was so excited that I just applied the liquid lipstick directly. It felt a little dry and to be very honest, I felt a teeny weeny disappointed. The next time when I used it, I first applied the lip pencil and followed with a single coat of the liquid lipstick. I am happy to report that this worked well. The color not only popped on my lips but it also felt a little more comfortable; however it still felt drying. Definitely the best way to use this kit. It lasted for almost 6 hours. However, when I ate the color faded around the center of my lips.

Kristen is described as a strawberry-red color. It is supposedly named after Kylie's mother, which makes it all the more special to her. On me Kristen appears more of a warm berry red, with more reddish tones than pink. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful shade which is appropriate for both fall and spring. Definitely one of my favourite colors.

One the whole, I do really like the whole idea of a lipkit of a pencil with a liquid lipstick but given the hefty price tag that is attached to this, I am going to think thrice before splurging any more money on these. While I did really like the pencil, I have tried better liquid lipsticks with more comfortable formulas (such as Kat Von D and Ofra), so I will be giving the rest of these a pass unless a shade my type comes. Haha.

I got my lipkit from Beauty House, who is literally offering the best prices for these. Check out the page here.

Which is your favourite colour in the Kylie Lipkits?

Love.
